Vasilopita is the cake traditionally baked and shared at the start of the year. It’s cut with family and friends gathered around the table, bringing a moment of anticipation, joy and hope for what’s ahead.
Our handmade Vasilopita is baked in small batches using a traditional recipe. It’s made with Greek yoghurt and fresh orange juice, giving a soft, fragrant crumb that stays beautifully light. Before baking, a lucky coin, known as the flouri, is placed inside the cake. By tradition, whoever finds it in their slice is believed to receive good luck for the year ahead.
What is Vasilopita Cake?
In Greek tradition, the start of the New Year is marked by cutting the Vasilopita cake with families and friends gathered around. As the cake is cut ceremoniously, excitement fills the air – everyone eagerly awaits to discover who will find the hidden coin in their slice. The lucky finder is said to receive extra blessings and luck for the year ahead!
